Tangi Lifestyles: My Journey from Internal Medicine to Dermatology

I was born in the heart of the Chihuahuan Desert in El Paso, Texas, under the charring heat and blistering sun. This setting provided me with a front-row seat to the damaging effects of the sun on skin.

After completing medical school, I chose to pursue Internal Medicine at LSU in New Orleans, Louisiana. I wanted to take time to develop a well-rounded perspective of medicine before choosing my final specialty. I take pride in my keen sense of observation and innate curiosity, so I enjoy the challenge of treating patients with complex medical problems. After graduation, I practiced as a hospitalist at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans. During that time, I realized I missed using my hands in a more active role in my practice. When considering the next step in my career, I found myself drawn to the clinical variety and mix of medical and surgical disciplines that only dermatology could provide.

I have a passion for the early detection of skin cancer, treating skin diseases, and surgical and cosmetic dermatology. I enjoy spending time educating my patients on sun protection and skin care regimens.
