Recently, a young woman with “beautiful” skin came into our office with a suspicious mole. Sadly, she frequented tanning beds and didn’t adequately protect her skin while in the sun. Her diagnosis at such a young age was melanoma. Don’t think this deadly cancer only happens to someone else.
Keep in mind these 4 facts about melanoma, the deadliest, most aggressive form of skin cancer, and stay sun-safe this summer!
1. Tanning, whether in tanning beds or “laying out,” greatly increases the chance of melanoma.
2. Melanoma often occurs in young adults as well as older people.
3. More moles mean an increased risk of melanoma.
4. Melanoma can quickly spread throughout the bloodstream before it’s even recognized on the skin.
