Chemical Peels Customized for You
Regular cell turnover and exfoliation are important to achieve and maintain healthy skin. With chronological aging, as well as exposure to environmental damage (including UV rays), our rate of cellular turnover slows. This can lead to a buildup of dead surface cells followed by an appearance of dull complexion and compromised skin barrier function. Chemical peels help to accelerate exfoliation, revealing a more even-toned and radiant complexion.

A glycolic peel applies a high concentration of glycolic acid—a type of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) naturally found in sugar cane—directly to the skin and then neutralizing solution. During the first treatment, the glycolic acid remains on the skin for approximately one minute with the time interval usually increasing during subsequent peels. The initial reaction to the application of the glycolic acid is often a tingling or itchy sensation or slight stinging. Mild redness will develop and may last for 2 to 24 hours, depending on skin sensitivity. The immediate result after the peel is a softer, cleaner feel to the treated skin. After each peel, a protective sunscreen is applied. A series of peels over a period of weeks or months, along with a daily skin care maintenance regimen, sloughs away the top layer of dead skin cells to reveal fresher, healthier skin.
Although improvements will vary, in general, the benefits after a series of glycolic peels include:
- Smoother skin texture and tone
- Diminished fine lines and wrinkles
- Reduction in age and sun (brown) spots
- Control of excess oil
- Restored vitality
- Reduction of blemishes
A salicylic peel utilizes salicylic acid to remove surface oil, unclog pores (thus minimizing the formation of blackheads and whiteheads), increase exfoliation, and aid the efficacy of topical medications. This unique oil-soluble acid is obtained from willow trees and is the only beta hydroxy acid (BHA). Because of its oil solubility, salicylic acid is able to deeply penetrate into oil glands to exfoliate dead skin cells, oil, and dirt. The anti-inflammatory properties of salicylic acid also make this BHA an excellent treatment for acne-prone skin.
During a salicylic peel, the salicylic acid remains on the skin for usually three minutes, although the time interval may increase with subsequent visits. The initial reaction includes a tingling, itchy, or stinging feeling or even a hot sensation. After each peel, a mild redness will develop and may last for 2 to 24 hours depending upon the skin’s sensitivity, and a protective sunscreen is applied to the refreshed skin. A series of peels over a period of weeks or months, along with a daily skin care maintenance regimen, increases the rate in which dead cells are sloughed away from the top skin layer, controls oil production, diminishes blemishes, and reduces the potential for acne scarring. Salicylic peels give you a clearer, more balanced complexion.
