Laser Liposculpture - SmartlipoExperienced liposuction surgeons have waited for years for this technology to come of age, and finally early in 2007 the FDA approved Smartlipo --- the gentle removal of excess fat deposits using a laser tip on the end of a tiny fiber. Instead of sucking fat deposits through a vacuum tube, the fat cells are melted away, and the overlying skin is also heated and tightened. The procedure is done using only local anesthesia through tiny punctures, and the result is loss of excessive fat, tighter skin, and very litle healing time compared to conventional liposuction.The indications for laser lipo are many and varied, from love handles, saddlebags, and abdominal "pooches", to loose neck skin and loose upper arm skin. It is also useful for excessive sweat gland production in the underarm areas. Dr. Benson was among the first cosmetic surgeons in the US to perform liposuction, having trained with pioneers in the procedure in the 1980s.
